The technology doesn't eliminate human workers so much as redeploy them. Western factories still require operators, quality inspectors, and skilled seamstresses for complex garments. The robots handle the high-volume, low-skill work that sustained Asian manufacturing jobs for four decades.

The economics work best for high-volume, standardized items. T-shirts, jeans, and athletic wear benefit most from automation. Luxury goods requiring detailed handwork remain labor-intensive regardless of geography.
This pivot carries geopolitical weight. Bringing production home reduces dependence on Asian supply chains while creating manufacturing jobs in the West. But automation's real winner isn't workers in any region. It's efficiency itself. Robots don't demand higher wages, healthcare, or better working conditions. They simply make clothing cheaper to produce everywhere.
