Many describe severe attention problems, executive dysfunction, and emotional dysregulation tied to hormonal fluctuations, yet doctors have rarely investigated the connection systematically.
ADHD diagnosis and treatment have historically centered on male presentations, leaving women underdiagnosed and undermedicated. Women often develop compensatory coping mechanisms that mask symptoms until later in life, when hormonal changes from puberty, pregnancy, or perimenopause expose underlying neurodevelopmental challenges.
